April’s Fools at the Integratron
Landers, California: April 1, 2006
Directions: from LA: 10 East all the way to the 62 (Other Desert Cities) off at the
Joshua Tree/Yucca Valley Exit. Come up through the pass and into Yucca Valley,
making a left on Old Woman Springs, which is a major intersection. Keep on up old woman to Reche Road: make a right to Belfield. There will be a sign for the Castle Inn
and a sign to the Integratron and the Orchid Farm. Make a left, and you will see the Dome on your right. There is a parking lot, but if that’s full, parking along Belfield
Road is no problem. From Los Angeles it is approximately a 3 hours drive.
The gates will be open at 2:00 p.m: you can come in, check out the Integratron,
check out the art, relax on the patio or under the trees. We suggest you bring blankets,
chairs, water, etc. Performances will not begin until the evening, so if you like you can come see the place during the day, venture out and explore the area, take a lot of pictures, have a horseride, lunch, walk around, have a drink,
or just hang out for a nap.
We will have coffee, snacks and wine for a limited amount of time.
The performance schedule will run until midnight, and is in flux at this writing…
there will be toilet facilities on site, and while we strongly suggest booking into one of the local hotels or motels, we would NOT be happy if anyone were too drunk or tired
to drive home. Bring pillows and sleep in your car along Belfield Road if you need to.
We love you and love our desert. We will not like bottles, cigarette butts or other trash
thrown around. Please respect our temple and keep it clean. Please watch for rabbits and coyotes while driving, for their sake and yours.
We are always very much at the mercy of the weather out here, so let’s all hope it doesn’t rain or snow! It’s trying to be Spring but we never know. Please bring wraps, hats, sweaters, jackets, etc. It could be a gorgeous spring desert day and very cold at night, or vice versa. We would hate for you to come all the way out and be uncomfortable.
This event is free and none of the contributing artists are being paid. Food and wine will not be free, so bringing your own provisions is a good idea as well, although we appreciate and would like to support our local vendors who are working with us to make this a trulyFoolish happening! You can help by contributing to Integratron Preservation. Having lost so much of our American Architectural Heritage in the recent disasters in the South, there is only one Integratron, built by a ‘fool’ named George Van Tassel, inspired by the work of another ‘fool’, Nikola Tesla.
Dress Foolishly! We may even have a costume contest if everybody earns it! This is a Spring celebration, and we think Halloween should be twice a year, at least….
Daylight Saving Time: Begins that night, so at some point set your clock ahead 1 hour.
